Bread Maker Granola

For years I searched for the perfect granola. Every one I tried had something missing or something I didn't like, I just wasn't satisfied! I started making my own in the oven but with kids around I found that I would forget to stir it and finally gave up. I know, excuses, excuses...

On a search for recipes for my mom's bread machine I came across an amazing discovery: if your bread machine has a "jam mode" you can use that to perfectly toast your granola!! It melts the butter, stirs it for you and turns it off. You can even leave it in there to cool until you're ready to put it in your airtight container!

I loved my Mom's bread machine so much that my parents got me one for my birthday. It's the Zojirushi Home Bakery Supreme® Breadmaker, and I love it! I love making breads, jams and GRANOLA! My Mom did tons of research before she chose this machine and she was right on target. While it's pricey it's worth it!

Back to the granola, the following is my recipe. I'm sure that it can be adapted for the oven but I'm not sure of the times and temperatures.

Bread Maker Granola
2.5 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup almond flour
1/2 cup roasted, salted sunflower seeds
1/2 cup chia seeds
1/2 cup hemp hearts (I found mine reasonably priced at Costco)
3 T butter
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 t cinnamon

1. Place all the ingredients in the bread machine. I try to make sure the butter is cut in slices and are evenly distributed through the machine.
2. Turn on the machine and enjoy the amazing smell of cooking granola!
